What is the Mona Lisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is a  new therapy that treats the symptoms of Vulvovaginal Atrophy that you  may be experiencing. MonaLisa Touch is a fractional CO2 laser with a  vaginal probe that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue  (mucosa) to revitalize the cells so they make more collagen, elastin and  vascularization and moisture is increased. There is also a Vulvar probe  which delivers energy to the vulvar region.

How can the Mona Lisa Touch system help me? Is it safe for use if I've had Breast Cancer?

Just like you,  many postmenopausal women are experiencing changes from decreased  estrogen that can affect their quality of life in unexpected ways. This  can result in Vulvovaginal Atrophy (also called Genitourinary Syndrome  of Menopause) which has symptoms such as:
Vaginal dryness
Vaginal burning
Vaginal itching
Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
Painful urination (dysuria)

Yes,  MonaLisa Touch treatment is a great option and particularly well suited  for patients who cannot, or prefer not to receive estrogen therapy.

What does the procedure feel like?

The in-office procedure is virtually painless, requires no anesthesia and typically is done under 5 minutes.

Patients  can return to normal activities after the procedure, but should refrain  from sexual activity for 2-3 days. Your doctor will determine a  post-procedure regimen that is right for you.

How many treatments do I need, and how soon will I see results? How long will they last?

For  vaginal treatment, patients receive three 5 minute in-office treatments  that are spaced six weeks apart. For vulvar treatment, patients receive  five in-office treatments that are spaced six weeks apart.

Most  MonaLisa Touch patients feel improvement after the very first  treatment, although the procedure calls for three 5 minute treatments  that are generally spaced over a 18-week period.

After the initial treatment, patients should expect to come back annually for a maintenance treatment*.
*Your doctor will determine with you when follow up treatments are required.

What is the recovery period after treatment?

Patients can return  to normal activities after the procedure, but should refrain from  sexual activity for 2-3 days. Your doctor will determine a  post-procedure regimen that is right for you.

How much does the procedure cost? Is it covered by OHIP?

Cost may vary  depending on the specific condition being treated. Although the MonaLisa  Touch is not currently covered by OHIP, patients are encouraged to  contact their private or third-party health insurance carriers to see if  they will cover the cost of treatment.
